  FirstSearch & ATLA Religion Database
FirstSearch is an online service that gives users seamless electronic access to a rich collection of reference databases and more than 10 million full-text and full-image articles. Underlying FirstSearch is the WorldCat database, the most comprehensive and up-to-date bibliographic resource available. Materials in the CBTS library's collection are highlighted in your search results. Access to the FirstSearch database requires a user name and password. If you do not already have the necessary authorization, please contact the Librarian.

The ATLA Religion Database is an essential tool for the study of religion. It is the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion. The fact that many publishers solicit the inclusion of their journals in ATLA RDB is indicative of the stature it has achieved in the community of religion scholars. The more than 1,100,000 records in the ATLA Religion Database include:
  • 372,000 journal articles
  • 200,000 essays from 15,500 multi-author works
  • 364,000 book reviews
  • 1,523 journal titles; 600 of which are currently indexed
  • 36 languages
  • 128,000 cross-referenced subject headings

Journals are selected for inclusion according to their scholarly merit and scope. Journals representing all the major religious faiths, major denominations, and numerous language groups are included. ATLA's indexing of multi-author works, such as Festschriften and conference proceedings, is unique among religion databases. Unlike indexes that catalog books of essays as a single entry.

2.       To provide access to Baptist and fundamentalist literature.
