Message from Dr. David Burggraff:

Some of you may have heard about a change in my role at Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary. Below is a copy of a letter recently sent to all of our CBTS students. In addition to what I have said to our students, I would like to add that we are anticipating a great year at Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary. Last year was one of our best ever in the areas of enrollment and finances, with significant milestones achieved in both our accreditation status (candidate level with MSCHE) and our degree-granting status (permission received from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to grant the M.A.T.S. and M.A.C.M. degrees).

Thanks for visiting our web site and taking the time to read my letter. Should you have any questions, I would be delighted to hear from you. Please feel free to email me at .

August 17, 2005

Dear Seminary Student,

I trust your summer is going well. If it is like mine, you are looking at the calendar and wondering where June and July went. In less than two weeks we resume fall semester classes, and it looks like it is going to be a good year for our incoming enrollment.

I am writing this letter because it is not possible in the summer months to speak to the students face to face in chapel, nor phone call all the students individually. In the meantime, I need to at least communicate by mail. I have been much in prayer and have reached a decision that I believe is the Lord’s will for my life. I am planning on stepping down as President of CBTS, effective January 15, 2006. The primary reason is that I am ready to return to the classroom and the pulpit. The past three years as President have been gradually moving my attention and efforts toward fund raising, and further from my life-long passion for impacting students through teaching. I have spoken with Pastor Tim Jordan and the seminary administration and faculty, and the intentions after January are to have me continue to teach 12-14 hours of theology courses annually (the level I have always taught at CBTS). By doing so, it also keeps a doctorate in the theology department, which is absolutely essential for accreditation purposes. In addition to my responsibilities at CBTS, I will be taking on the role of Vice President of Spiritual Formation at Clearwater Christian College. Meanwhile, the process of a presidential successor is getting underway. When I speak to you in chapel on Tuesday and Wednesday during our first week of classes, I can answer questions and provide more details.

I am looking forward to seeing you next week when we again get underway. In the meantime, may God bless in your life and in the ministry of CBTS.

Your friend and fellow-laborer in His service,

David L. Burggraff, Ph.D.
